Dumpling Mixture

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the 6 tablespoons of butter. Add the diced onion, chopped celery, and minced garlic, sautéing until the onions are translucent.
  • Stir in the 0.25 cup of all-purpose flour, cooking for about a minute. Then, whisk in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and chicken bouillon.
  • Slowly add the 3 cups of chicken broth and 1 cup of heavy whipping cream while stirring constantly. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer until thickened.
  • Fold in the shredded cooked chicken and frozen peas, mixing well.
  • In a separate bowl, combine 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt. Add the 0.5 cup of milk and 3 tablespoons of melted butter, mixing until just combined.
  • Pour the chicken filling into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling mixture over the top, covering as much of the filling as possible.
  • Place your casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving.
