Ingredients

Steak Ingredients

  • 2 lbs juicy beef steak (ribeye or sirloin) Choose cuts with good marbling for better flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For searing the steak.
  • 1 teaspoon salt For seasoning.
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper For seasoning.

Gravy Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter For making the roux.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour To create the gravy base.
  • 2 cups beef broth For flavoring the gravy.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Adds depth to the gravy.

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Pat the beef steak dry with paper towels to enhance crusting.
  • Sprinkle salt and black pepper evenly on both sides of the steak.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  • Place the seasoned steak into the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for desired doneness.
  • Remove the steak from the skillet and allow it to rest for about 5 minutes.

Gravy Steps

  • In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add butter.
  • Allow butter to melt and mix in flavors left in the pan.
  • Sprinkle in flour and whisk continuously to form a roux; cook for about a minute.
  • Gradually pour in beef broth while whisking to prevent lumps.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce and continue whisking until gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

Notes

Consider marinating steak in olive oil, garlic, and herbs for added flavor. For a thicker gravy, let it simmer longer or add a cornstarch slurry.
