Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lb Ground Beef (80/20 blend) Use a blend that ensures juiciness.
  • 1 cup Bread Crumbs (Plain, dried) Provides a crispy texture.
  • 1 envelope French Onion Soup Mix Adds robust onion flavor.
  • 1 cup Beef Broth (Low Sodium) Keeps the meatloaf moist.
  • 2 Large Eggs Acts as a binding agent.
  • 2 Large Onions (Thinly Sliced) Sweet and caramelized for added flavor.
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil Used for sautéing onions.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and caramelized.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, dried bread crumbs, French onion soup mix, beef broth, and eggs. Mix until well combined, being careful not to over-mix.
  • Once the onions are caramelized, allow them to cool briefly before folding them into the meat mixture until evenly distributed.
  • Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan or shape it by hand on a lined baking sheet.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for approximately 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in fresh herbs or sprinkling cheese on top during the last 10 minutes of baking. Always use a meat thermometer to ensure correct cooking.
