  • Fold in vanilla extract and optional food coloring into the meringue.
  • Gently fold in the sifted almond flour and powdered sugar mixture until the batter has a 'lava-like' consistency.
  • Pipe heart shapes onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space for expansion.
  • Allow macarons to rest for 30-40 minutes until they develop a skin.

Baking

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, rotating trays halfway through for even baking.
  • Let the macarons cool completely before removal.

Filling

  • In a separate bowl, beat softened butter until smooth and creamy.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, beating until fluffy.
  • Pipe buttercream onto half of the cooled macaron shells and sandwich with the remaining halves.
