Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a healthier option
  • 1 medium onion, chopped adds aromatic sweetness
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced elevates the dish’s savory essence
  • 2 cups beef broth for depth of flavor
  • 15 oz canned tomato sauce provides a tangy base
  • 15 oz canned diced tomatoes undrained for additional flavor
  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni can substitute with whole-grain or gluten-free pasta
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning adds a Mediterranean flair
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese for creaminess

Instructions

Cooking

  • Cook the ground beef in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until browned. Drain excess grease.
  • Add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the beef broth, tomato sauce, and undrained diced tomatoes. Stir well to combine.
  • Add the uncooked elbow macaroni, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir to ensure pasta is evenly coated.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer and cover. Cook for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until pasta is tender.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.
  • Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving to thicken the sauce.

Notes

Serve with a crisp green salad or garlic bread for a complete meal. For variations, add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers.
