Ingredients

For the beef

  • 1 lb Lean Ground Beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning Use spicy seasoning for more heat.

For the salad

  • 1 head Iceberg Lettuce Shredded into crisp ribbons.
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese Offers a creamy, melty texture.
  • 1 cup Diced Tomatoes Bursting with fresh, juicy flavor.
  • 0.5 cup Black Olives Sliced for a briny touch.
  • 0.5 cup Red Onion Diced to add a zesty crunch.
  • 1 cup Catalina Dressing Brings everything together with tangy sweetness.
  • 1 bag Tortilla Chips Crisp and golden for scooping.

Instructions

Cooking the Beef

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the lean ground beef. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  • Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the cooked ground beef and stir to combine. Add a splash of water if the mixture seems too dry. Let it simmer for a few more minutes until well combined and flavorful.

Preparing the Salad

  • While the beef is cooking, wash and shred the iceberg lettuce. Place it as the base of your salad in a large bowl or serving platter.
  • Begin layering the salad by sprinkling the cooked taco beef over the shredded lettuce. Add the diced tomatoes, followed by the black olives.
  • Generously sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top, letting it melt slightly on the warm beef, then add the diced red onion.
  • Drizzle the Catalina dressing generously over the salad.
  • Top with a handful of crispy tortilla chips.
  • Toss gently before serving or leave layered for presentation. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

Taco Salad can be customized with more veggies like bell peppers and avocados. Prepare beef and veggies ahead of time for quick assembly. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days.
